Family Photographer Serving Fairfield County, CT & Westchester County, NY

Because the way your family looks right now is worth remembering

Genuine smiles, real connection, and authentic moments with your favorite people — that's what JW Brown Photography family sessions are built around. Based in Ridgefield, CT on the border of Fairfield County and Westchester County, I offer outdoor portrait sessions and in-home lifestyle sessions for families throughout the region. My job is to make the whole experience feel easy, fun, and completely stress-free — even with toddlers (and/or grumpy husbands) involved.

Two Ways to Capture Your Family

Every family is different! Some love the idea of golden hour portraits in a beautiful outdoor setting, others feel most themselves at home surrounded by their everyday life. I offer both, and I'm happy to help you figure out which one fits.

Outdoor Family Portrait Sessions — Fairfield County & Westchester County

Outdoor family sessions take place an hour or so before sunset — golden hour light is what gives these images that warm, timeless look that holds up for decades. I work with several beautiful locations across Fairfield County and Westchester County, and I'll help you choose the right spot based on your vision and the time of year, from a beach to a field to a farm. Sessions include a mix of classically posed family portraits and casual, candid moments of your family actually having fun together.

Session fee: $300 | Packages starting at $600

In-Home Family Lifestyle Sessions — Fairfield County & Westchester County

An in-home lifestyle session is exactly what it sounds like: I come to your home and photograph your family living your actual life together. Think trampolines, baking, board games, bubbles, and backyard chaos. The result is a gallery that feels genuinely like your family rather than a posed portrait. Sessions are flexible on timing and take place indoors or in your yard.

“AMAZING TO WORK WITH”

Just completed our first family photoshoot with Jessica, and we will absolutely be booking with her again in the future! She was amazing to work with - kind, professional, friendly, and great with our kids. We have 2 under 2 and she was able to accomodate an earlier evening time for us.

With two young kiddos, I was totally expecting to get maybe 2 good photos to frame. I was so surprised when we received our gallery and there were so many beautiful shots to choose from! I loved the variety of photos she captured, and her dreamy aesthetic/editing is unmatched. 100% worth the investment and we will cherish these heirlooms for many many years to come.

What to Expect From Your Family Session (Chaos welcome)

Family sessions are designed to keep kids engaged and having fun, which takes the pressure off parents entirely. I keep things light and fun with games, silly prompts, and plenty of patience. Toddler meltdowns, uncooperative siblings, and pets are all welcome. Some of my favorite images have come from the most chaotic sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions ABOUT FAMILY PHOTOSHOOTS

  • Getting dressed for a family session doesn't have to be stressful — I'm here to help every step of the way. Before your session I'll share guidance on seasonally appropriate colors, outfit combinations, and what tends to photograph well for the time of year. And for those who want a little extra help, I also offer a complimentary styling service. You'll fill out a quick questionnaire and receive specific clothing recommendations you can easily order online. Between the two, you'll show up feeling completely prepared and confident.

  • We'll reschedule! I usually call it on the day of since weather predictions fluctuate. Cloudy days actually make for beautiful, evenly lit images, however.

  • I'm happy to reschedule for illness. Just give me as much notice as possible and we'll find a new date.

  • Within two weeks of your session you'll receive a link to your online gallery where you can view, download, and order prints directly.

  • Honestly — don't worry too much about it. I design sessions to keep kids engaged and having fun, and I bring plenty of games, silly prompts, and patience to every session. Shy kids always get a moment to warm up before I point a camera at them, and I'm not above being completely goofy (and throwing in some bathroom humor) if that's what it takes to get a genuine smile.

The one thing I always tell parents: try to let go of the idea of a perfect session. The best family photos rarely come from perfectly behaved kids — they come from real moments, and those happen naturally when everyone is relaxed and having fun. That's exactly the environment I work to create.

  • Just reach out and I'll take it from there!

  • Mini sessions are shorter, more streamlined sessions (typically 15 minutes) offered a few times a year at a set location and time. They're a great option for families who want a handful of beautiful updated photos without the full session investment. Because they're condensed, mini sessions include a limited number of images and don't allow for multiple locations or outfit changes.

Full portrait sessions are a longer, more personalized experience — typically an hour or so before sunset at a location we choose together. You'll have time for multiple setups, outfit changes if you'd like, and a much larger final gallery.

Mini sessions are announced a few times a year, and the best way to make sure you don't miss one is to join my email list, where subscribers always hear about new sessions and availability first.

If you're not sure which is right for you, the easiest way to figure it out is to reach out. I'm happy to talk it through.

“INCREDIBLY PATIENT WITH YOUR 2.5 YEAR OLD AND OUR 1 YEAR OLD”

Jessica is the most amazing photographer I have ever met!!! She did a family photo shoot for our family and we can’t wait to use her again. This is easily the best experience we've had with a photographer. She was so INCREDIBLY patient with our 2.5 year old and our 1 year old and she made everyone feel comfortable.

She is so sweet, easy going, kind, professional, accommodating, and responsive. Our photos came out amazing!!! They are more than we ever could have asked for. She is so talented. We would HIGHLY recommend her!!!
